Beaver oh Beaver!

November 10th, 2011 - Full Moon

According to the Farmer's Almanac the November Full Moon is called the Beaver Moon because it was at this time of year that trappers and traders would set traps for beavers to ensure a large supply of warm furs for the coming winter as it was also the time that the beavers themselves are preparing for the long winter ahead.

I'm not sure how I feel about a Full Moon being named for something so bloody. I understand it was about survival and all, but it got to the point that more beavers were killed than necessary. They were almost wiped out here in Canada. The November Full Moon has also been referred to as the Frosty Moon because it is about this time that the first frosts begin to appear. I much prefer that name. It sounds musical.

The Full Moon, no matter which month, represents the Triple Goddess in her Mother form. The energy from the Full Moon provides the best time to perform spells of transformation, fertility, increase of psychic ability, as well as the obvious one of invoking the Goddesses of the Moon and Mother Goddesses.

I find it the most cleansing time of the month and the time I feel most alive because of my connection to the Lady Artemis. It's an excellent time for reflection and meditation. Whatever you choose to call this Full Moon and however you choose to spend it I hope that you enjoy it! Know that my blessings fall upon you this night as well as my sincerest wishes for your safety and prosperity!

Brightest Blessings! ☽O☾
